Faces of Faith Technologies | Meet Maddisyn, Specialty Systems Helper

At Faith Technologies, we have some amazing employees who make our culture unique. The Faces of Faith Technologies series aims to highlight the talented individuals who work with us. Each month, we’ll introduce you to several of these individuals so you can get to know the ‘Faces of Faith Technologies.’ We recently talked to Maddisyn Whitlock, a specialty systems helper currently located in Nashville. Here’s what she had to say:

What led you to work for Faith Technologies?

Since Faith is a family affair for me, I knew about the opportunities in this industry and was inspired to earn a wage and travel. My husband and I like experiencing new things together through travel, so it made sense. Living in the Nashville area has been a blast, the city has such great culture and it’s fun to try local dishes. There’s a local restaurant called Blackhorse Pub & Brewery that serves our favorite dish so far – beer cheese queso!

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned as an apprentice?

The most important lessons I’ve learned are about teamwork and being patient. I think everyone is always learning, so I try to be patient with others and hope they are patient with me. Onsite you’re working with a partner or a group of people and are rarely working alone, so it’s crucial to be a team player.

What does your position entail?

I’m on a fiber crew and we’re currently in the middle of splicing fibers; it’s a learning curve for everyone, but the technique is more effective and cuts down on testing time. To splice the fiber, we essentially weld the two fibers together using an electric arc. We have pre-terminated connectors that we splice on, which has lower loss than a field termination.

It’s a delicate job because you must ensure the fibers stay clean, so patience and focus are key to the success of the splice. Our crew is also responsible for fixing fiber issues across the site, so every day brings new challenges!

What do you like about your job?

The people – I’m surrounded by people who have positive attitudes and want to help me learn, so I look forward to coming in to work and our days go by quickly. I appreciate the opportunities to learn and grow within Faith, and it’s nice to be around others who are motivated to succeed and continue to advance.

What are some of your hobbies or interests outside of work?

When I’m not in school or working, I enjoy fly fishing, camping and spending time with my family. Family means everything to me; I have two nephews, Titan (6), and Kasen (6 mo.), and one niece, Noni (2); I wish they were my own children sometimes! Although I haven’t been able to fly fish in a while, my favorite places to go are the Owyhee River in Oregon and the St. Joe River in Idaho; my grandpa actually makes his own lures for fishing trips, they are beautiful, and I hope someday I have the patience to learn the craft!

My husband, Kyle, and I like to camp in Cascade, ID or in northern Idaho. I’m guilty of spending too much time with technology, so I love the break from it. We prefer to camp where there’s no cell phone service, which allows us to disconnect from the world and reconnect with nature.

Are there any personal accomplishments you’d like to share?

I’m currently finishing my bachelor’s degree in applied management at Grand Canyon University; the program teaches different management approaches, and how to take care of employees, which is helping me to learn what kind of leader I want to be.

In addition to school, I’ve recently become dedicated to fitness! My husband and I wake up around 3 a.m. to work out, it’s become our routine and I really look forward to it.

What’s your why?

My why is my present and future family; Kyle and I want to start our own family, we’re just not ready yet. We have so much life to live, and that keeps me motivated.
