Faces of Faith Technologies | Meet Rick, Superintendent

At Faith Technologies, we have some amazing employees who make our culture unique. The Faces of Faith Technologies series aims to highlight the talented individuals who work with us. Each month, we’ll introduce you to several of these individuals so you can get to know the ‘Faces of Faith Technologies.’ We recently talked to Rick Herman, a superintendent from Green Bay, WI. Here’s what he had to say:

What led you to work for Faith Technologies?

I completed my apprenticeship with a different electrical company, and began my career with Faith because of the attractive compensation package and growth opportunities. Working for Faith has been fulfilling and challenging, which makes me look forward to each day on the job site.

What does your position entail?

My role focuses on project planning; I create electrical layouts for the crew, order materials, coordinate schedules, and coordinate with the customer and other contractors to complete the project. Staying on top of the schedule is key for us to succeed because we’re working in an operating healthcare facility. This sometimes prompts us to work odd shifts, such as 10 p.m. Sunday night through 6 a.m. Monday morning, which allows us to complete tasks that are too loud during the day, such as drilling. In addition to the environmental challenges, my role requires me to quickly react and solve problems when they arise, which continues to improve my skills and keeps me motivated.

As a veteran employee, what’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned in your career?

There are two lessons I guide my actions with: your work is your signature and listen to the customer.

When I work with my crew, I remind them that their work is a direct reflection on them as a professional. I encourage them to aim for perfection, because that is what the customer expects and deserves.

Actively listening to and acting on the customers’ feedback is crucial to building long-lasting relationships, which lead to strategic partnerships. No project is too small to leave a positive impression; if we exceed the customer’s expectations on a smaller project, they could favor us for a larger project in the future.

What are your hobbies or interests outside of work?

Our family is tightly knit, so Joyce and I will visit our two daughters, Amanda and Holly, every three months or so in western Minnesota. Taylor, our youngest daughter, lives in Green Bay, and it’s been exciting to help her plan for her upcoming wedding this fall.

While I used to snowmobile and ice fish, my preferences have changed to enjoy beaches and boating! During the summer, we head to our cabin in northern Wisconsin to go boating, fishing and swimming.

My wife and I travel to warmer areas frequently; our favorite spot is Jamaica! We’ve visited the island six times, and continue to return because of the beautiful weather, delicious food and rich culture. In addition to Jamaica, we travel to Florida annually to meet up with our friends. I’m hoping to retire in the next few years, and these trips help us better determine our retirement destination!
