Faces of Faith Technologies | Meet Sergio, Workforce Manager

At Faith Technologies, we have some amazing employees who make our culture unique. The Faces of Faith Technologies series aims to highlight the talented individuals who work with us. Each month, we’ll introduce you to several of these individuals so you can get to know the ‘Faces of Faith Technologies.’ We recently talked to Sergio Chavez, a workforce manager who had started as an electrical apprentice with Faith about 30 years ago. Here’s what he had to say:

How has your role changed over time?

The beginning of my career with Faith was focused on learning and achieving my goals; I earned my Journeyman’s license in 1993 and became more confident in my skills. Two years later, I was given the opportunity to run my first job, and was promoted to a foreman shortly after. The position I’ve held the longest has been the superintendent role, which helped to support my transition to a workforce manager. On a high level, as a superintendent I was responsible for managing projects, mentoring employees and solving problems.

What does your position entail?

As a workforce manager, I recruit talent to Faith, and provide and facilitate career path discussions with employees and apprentices. I also travel to job sites frequently. On the job site, I’ll connect with the superintendent or foreman to find out what their staffing needs are, and check in with employees before returning to the office. The bulk of my time is spent on job sites, which keeps me connected to the employees so I can continue to guide them as needed.

What are your favorite things about your job?

Some of my favorite aspects of my role are the interview process, seeing employees progress through Faith and being a mentor. During interviews, I like learning about the candidate’s goals and dreams. One of the more rewarding benefits of my role is seeing employees I mentored as apprentices become foremen or superintendents. Being able to have a positive influence as a mentor is what motivates me!

What are some of your hobbies or interests outside of work?

My wife and I love to be outside, and we travel frequently now that our children are grown. Whether we are taking a motorcycle ride with no destination, or traveling to Panama City Beach in Florida for scuba diving, we enjoy every minute! We live near a small lake, so we swim, boat and water ski regularly.

Our vacations are always near the ocean so we can scuba dive, and we try to travel at least two times per year. My favorite destination for scuba diving is the Dominican Republic; the ocean is crystal clear, the fish are vibrant and the coral is beautiful! We love our children, and see them as often as we can, but due to their locations it can be difficult. Our son Ivan lives in Texas; our daughter Melissa lives in Kansas City, MO and our youngest son, Damian is overseas.

Do you have any aspirations, either inside or outside of work that you’d like to share?

I’ve been interested in purchasing a horse, but my wife and I are unsure about the commitment level. Riding is a revered hobby, and I would want to spend enough time with the horse while maintaining our current lifestyle.
