Faith Participates in Kansas State University’s Mock Bid Day

Last month, I had the opportunity to participate in the Mock Bid Day put on by Kansas State University’s Construction Science and Management program.

Each semester, their estimating course arranges groups of students into a mock general contracting company. Using blueprint drawings, they’re taught how to do takeoffs, write scopes of work, and receive bids from subcontractors. On Mock Bid Day, representatives from the construction industry are invited to serve as subcontractors submitting bids. These representatives are given the opportunity to provide real-world feedback to the students to help them continue to learn about the industry.

As a K-State alumni myself, not only did this provide me the opportunity to go back to a place I love, it also allowed me to represent Faith Technologies in a new way to current students and professors.

An integral part of Faith’s ground-up growth initiative is ensuring we are visible to students in construction and engineering-related programs. The way we see it, the earlier and more often we’re in front of students, the more likely they’ll be able to learn about our growing company and the opportunities we offer. Programs like this give companies the unique opportunity to visit classes, host seminars, attend career fairs, give company presentations, and host interviews with students.

When I was a student at K-State, at first I believed my only career path after graduation was to work for a general contractor and be a project manager or superintendent. It wasn’t until I began looking for jobs that I decided to expand my horizons and apply to a place like Faith. Faith Technologies is involved in other aspects of the industry such as technology, system development and mission critical electrical integration.

Receiving and accepting an offer from Faith has been one of the best things that’s ever happened to me. As a member of their preconstruction group, I’ve been given the opportunity to work with a variety of departments and people companywide. This has helped me to learn new things and further grow my career.

For anyone interested in similar opportunities, I’d highly recommend looking into universities that offer construction and engineering programs that educate students about a broad range of career possibilities, like we have at Faith Technologies.
