Faith Technologies Hosts Students For Exploration Day

The Faith Technologies Learning & Development team at our Kansas office was privileged to recently host 7th grade students from Santa Fe Trail Middle School for their annual Exploration Day. Kelsey Carsella and Bill Brooks, teachers of the school’s science course Team Integrity brought two groups of students, totaling about 45, to Faith Technologies University in Lenexa. They were hosted by John Storms, Todd Moody and Justin Ray in Faith’s University Room, where hands-on experience projects were set up.

After brief introductions from the Technical Training Consultants and important information from our Safety and Human Resources teams, the students donned personal protective equipment (PPE) and got to work on two main projects:

  • Conduit bending – in this exercise, students were given the opportunity to bend an elbow in ½ inch electrical metallic tubing (EMT) and fit it up to a form to check their precision
  • Switch wiring – the students opened up junction boxes and connected wiring for single-pole and 3-way switches. Power was then applied so they could turn on and operate two different lamps

Each of these projects provided the students an opportunity to do something new, and to be able to see the results of their efforts right away.

In addition to the hands-on activities, the students were given a tour of the building where they learned about design activities which were taking place. They were also shown the tower training area, where Faith performs and also hosts high-rise training opportunities. The students also learned about Faith’s apprenticeship training program, which provides career-path opportunities for ‘earn while you learn’ training.

Thank you to Santa Fe Trail Middle School for allowing us to share information about Faith Technologies and the work we do. Thanks, also, to the many Faith staff members who supported the Exploration Day activities!
