Faith Technologies Project Spotlight: Exact Sciences

Faith Technologies was proud to be involved in a large-scale building project for Exact Sciences in Madison, Wisconsin. Exact Sciences is a bioscience organization that creates and takes to market innovative cancer-detection tests in their mission to play a role in the eradication of colorectal cancer. Their testing products and services help people get screened for this cancer in a non-invasive, cost-effective way.

Faith Technologies was chosen by general contractor J.H. Findorff & Son as the electrical and specialty systems contractor for a manufacturing building and warehouse with several labs that house testing equipment, laboratory samples and processing systems, a production building containing labs, as well as a state-of-the art research and development department. Faith relied on all four of our Centers of Excellence – preconstruction, manufacturing, construction and solutions – to ensure the best project outcomes, enabling us to meet aggressive project timeframes, as well as ensuring the best use of the owner’s budget.

Preconstruction

Faith’s preconstruction team provided several vital services to support rapid initial project work. Our engineering and design team was actively involved with project circuiting, layouts, coordination, lighting controls and light fixture selection. Budget management was supported throughout the project, with multiple pricing exercises beginning with conceptual design through construction drawings.

Manufacturing

The use of offsite manufacturing was instrumental in ensuring timely, efficient use of manpower. Offsite assemblies included fixture assembly/staging, wire mold, box builds, panel buildings, device knitting, conduit bending and strut racks. While this contributed to the project’s efficiency, one of the most important advantages of the reduced onsite labor is the safer working conditions brought on by the controlled manufacturing environment.

Construction

Faith performed all lighting, wiring and security systems work on these projects, along with installation of clean agent fire suppression systems. The project crew also provided and installed all conduit wire, devices, lighting and distribution equipment, and performed overall site field management for the electrical portion of the project.

Solutions

Faith’s solutions teams are comprised of experts in energy, industrial automation and connected buildings, as well as our team of field solutions specialists. They were called upon to perform a number of critical pieces on our work at Exact Sciences: our industrial automation team provided instrumentation and control panels for Exact Science’s Buffer manufacturing system, and our specialty systems group managed a subcontractor for structured cabling and to support Exact Sciences’ audiovisual needs. Faith self-performed and designed the building access control, security cameras and fire alarm systems. Our field solutions team also completed important safety studies including thermal imaging, ARC flash and coordination study reviews of the new buildings to ensure safety of all occupants, and to support current and future service work.

An integral ingredient in the overall success of the Exact Sciences projects was Faith’s energy expertise. Our energy solutions team worked with the customer to develop a program which allows them to proactively manage their energy consumption. This was part of the turnkey package which Faith provided to Exact Sciences, from preconstruction through closeout and turnover. Our service team worked closely with them to produce a master service agreement tailored specifically to their needs.

Based on the variety of work Faith was involved with at Exact Sciences, we were also able to provide direct training opportunities to employees in Faith’s in-house apprenticeship programs. Our apprenticeship programs enable Faith to support our growth and combat the industry’s skilled labor shortage.

Through their noninvasive molecular screening technology, Exact Sciences is focused on earlier detection and prevention of one of the deadliest forms of cancer. Their expansion supports their mission, and Faith Technologies is honored to support the work they do. We were also proud to receive a Gold ‘Projects of Distinction’ award from Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Wisconsin for our work on this progressive project.
