Faith Technologies Project Spotlight: University of Central Missouri | The Crossing – South at Holden

The Crossing main entranceIn August 2015, the University of Central Missouri (UCM) opened the doors to the largest capital building project in the institution’s history: The Crossing – South at Holden.

The Crossing is an 185,000 square foot, 325-bed mixed-use residence hall and retail facility, which will serve as a living and learning center at UCM. The facility provides a combination of two- and four-bedroom units that feature kitchens, living areas, and private bathrooms for each occupant. It also includes community spaces, an outdoor plaza area, and retail space.

In January 2014, McCown Gordon awarded this project to Faith Technologies. Our scope incorporated preconstruction, electrical, specialty systems, and manufacturing services. The project began in February 2014, and was completed 17 months later, in July 2015.

Faith Technologies’ preconstruction group provided all-inclusive preconstruction solutions including, design-assist and building information modeling (BIM) with use of the Robotic Total Station (RTS).

The electrical scope involved the installation of site electrical utility infrastructure, emergency power distribution, generator, normal power distribution, site lighting, lightning protection, and satellite TV truck power/systems. Additionally, Faith Technologies’ specialty systems group installed the building’s fire alarm system, fiber optic cabling, voice/data system, security, and temperature control wiring.

Our in-house manufacturing group, Excellerate, played a key, time-saving role during this project. All of the rooms were prefabricated using the room-in-a-tote concept for the rough-in and trim out stages. Unit panelboards and MC feeders were prefabricated, and all large feeder conduits were prefabricated and bent in Faith Technologies’ manufacturing facility.

Throughout the 17-month project, Faith Technologies’ employees maintained an exceptional safety record with zero lost time incidents. Thank you and congratulations to everyone who helped make each and every day safe!
