Faith Technologies Team Provides Hands-On Learning to Middle School Students

Faith Technologies employees recently had the privilege of conducting a training experience at Santa Fe Trail Middle School in Olathe, KS. The teacher there, Kelsey Carsella, worked with John Storms, technical training consultant at our Lenexa Branch, to arrange this hands-on learning experience. Other Faith employees involved included members of our workforce management team, other technical training consultants and even some current apprentices.

There were 12 students from 6th, 7th and 8th grades in attendance. After an introduction, safety review and explanation from our Faith team, the students worked on two separate projects. The first project was a switch display where the students made connections for single and three-way lighting. After assembling, they were able to energize power and see their lights come on. The second project was a conduit bending lesson where the students were shown how to use hand benders for ½” electric metallic tubing (EMT). They then proceeded to bend 90-degree stubs as well as offsets using the hand benders, tape measures and levels. These projects provided a glimpse into a career as an electrician or electrical helper, with the students being able to see the results of their work.

After completion of the activities, the students were allowed time for questions and answers with our team. Many were interested to know what skills would be needed to apply for an electrical position, and what could they expect to earn. Overall it was a very positive event. Thank you to Santa Fe Trail Middle School and Mrs. Carsella for allowing Faith Technologies to visit your classroom!
