Solar Plus Storage on the Minds of SPI-ESI Conference Attendees

Battery storage unit at Bubolz Nature Preserve

Several members of Faith Technologies’ energy solutions team recently attended the Solar Power International 2018 Convention in California. This is the largest energy event in North America, with more than 19,000 attendees, and occurs annually during North America Smart Energy Week.

With solar energy as the main topic of this conference, a majority of attendees at this year’s event (including Faith Technologies) also had a keen interest in the latest developments in energy storage technology from around the world.  Faith has proven to be a leader in the energy storage field, as evidenced by the recent successful completion of the Midwest’s most sophisticated microgrid at the Bubolz Nature Preserve in Appleton, Wisconsin, and our current work on the largest energy storage project for a co-op in the United States. We continue to look for new and better ways to solve our client’s biggest energy challenges and explore ways to provide additional value to their businesses, and energy storage is clearly part of that equation.

“We’ve attended this event for the past several years, and one thing we’ve learned is how incredibly fast this industry is growing,” noted David Delfosse, Vice President of Faith’s Integrated Projects Group. “We’re proud to say that we are at the leading edge of this and other renewable energy technologies, and our in-house expertise fits directly into the types of energy work that people are looking for.”

Dave notes that people are beginning to realize that solar isn’t just for southern states. These technologies are readily available and are being used in all 50 states. The Midwest is one of the fastest growing regions for solar power, thanks to ever-improving technologies and the ability to store power.

The ongoing success and recent extension of the solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC) program is also playing a major part in the continued growth of renewable energy. Under the ITC, project owners may be eligible for a tax credit of up to 30 percent on projects which begin prior to January 1, 2020. Thanks to the incentives in place, renewable energy is currently at the forefront of energy technology. In addition, solar and energy storage prices continue to decrease, and individuals and companies are realizing the long-term value of investment in renewable energy, which may have an effective life of 25 years or more.

“From Faith’s perspective, we believe battery storage is critical in the full energy solution. Solar is great when it’s sunny, but batteries give you the ability to use stored energy for those less sunny days, or during times of peak energy use at your facility. This flexibility and control is what truly allows energy users to benefit from this technology by reducing their overall energy consumption costs and added resiliency to their power systems,” Dave noted.

“When we think about Faith’s energy solution offerings, we differentiate ourselves by having highly skilled employees who continually drive value into every facet of our client’s business; from project conception through implementation, and then in our ongoing operational support. We develop customized energy solutions for our clients that in turn allow them to do better and be better at their core business.”

What are the energy needs of your business? Renewable solutions are likely available which can be tailored to meet your needs now and into the future.
