The Evolution of Design

building-3d-and-wireframe-12-1207491Over the years, the construction industry has experienced a tremendous amount of growth and evolution. So to remain cutting edge, here at Faith Technologies we’re continuously evolving our preconstruction services – especially those in our virtual design and construction (VDC) department.

Faith Technologies’ VDC department, formerly BIM/Detailing department, has made many leaps and bounds over the last 10 years. At the inception of detailing, we had a very simplistic approach to how we transformed a set of construction documents into a colored set of 2D layout drawings to help streamline installation on the jobsite. Then came building information modeling (BIM). BIM evolved into a whole new technology, which now creates 3D models on all electrical systems for a project with an overhead coordination requirement.

The impact of BIM had a positive impact on both our company and the construction industry.

It forced us to push the capabilities of Autodesk software from strictly using AutoCAD MEP to using Revit MEP. This software change created better team collaboration between the jobsite and office personnel, and also allowed for an infinite number of detailers/modelers to simultaneously work on the same project. In turn, we are able to be more efficient with meeting the demanding construction deadlines we face today.

Faith Technologies continues to look for new ways to innovate our VDC department. We’ve learned that having the field involved early is a key factor in making the construction process efficient throughout a project, but we won’t stop there.

With our new Excellerate manufacturing facility, we continue to involve our operations personnel early on. Why? Because it’s important all parties evolve and collaborate together to continue creating a well-oiled manufacturing machine.
